Basic Skin Care Tips You Should Follow During Winter

FYBC 2:6

Extreme weather temperatures, either hot or cold can do harm to your skin. However. Winter, in particular, can make your skin dry up and flake due to the dry wind and chilly conditions. Your regular skin regimen won’t help in such times. It’s true, during the winter months your skin needs a bit more pampering than usual in order to stay healthy and continue glowing. Here at a few winter tips for your complexion that stop dryness and dull looking skin in its tracks.

Cleanse

Regardless of the product you use, cleaning your face is a MUST! In fact, it’s a skincare step you should follow all year, no matter the season. In winter, you should limit the number of times you wash your face (2-3 times)! It is also helpful to alternatively cleanse your face with cold milk and a cotton ball, which prevents dryness.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin with a quality scrub is help any season. But like cleansing, you want to limit the number of times your scrub your face during the winter. Scrubbing too much can cause abrasion and make your skin drier. A way to eliminate the chance of over-exfoliating your skin, consider using a mild exfoliating scrub. You can enhance your experience but making your own scrub with natural ingredients available at your home.

Try this DIY recipe:

  • 2 tbsp. mashed ripe banana
  • 2 tbsp. of a mashed apple
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 2 dollops of your Mild scrub.

Mix all the ingredients and gently scrub your face for 2 minutes in circular motions. Washing it off with warm water and pat dry with a soft towel.

Toning To Tighten

Always use a toner that is chemical free! The harsher the toner, the more likely it is to disturb the PH levels of your skin. The purpose of a toner is to remove the post-cleansing residual dirt from your skin. Not to mention, toning tightens your skin and better prepares your skin to absorb any moisturizer or night serum you apply later.

Moisturize

Moisturizing isn’t necessary for only those with dry or flaky skin, but all skin types. You should always use a natural moisturizer, ones that contain extra virgin olive oil or almond oil.

4 Ways Cold Weather Can Benefit Your Skin

FYBC 1:16.jpg

Often times when we think winter, we think cracked hands, dry skin, basically all the unsavory skin conditions that the cold inflicts on us. But, since there are many more months of cold weather ahead, we have looked into some of the perks of freezing temperatures. Here are 5 ways that the cold actually helps your skin!

1. Helps Keep Pores Clog-free.

The great news is that the cold weather helps reduce and keeps pores less visible and refined. Acting as a sort of tonic or astringent. the cold weather slows down the secretion of sebum which reduces acne and keeps the shine away.

2. It Can Improve your Sleep.

Getting a full night’s rest is necessary for skin health and wellness, from reducing under eye circles to keeping your skin glowing. High heat during the nighttime is proven to disturb sleep whereas the cold supports the body’s natural temperature drop during sleep. Research shows the colder the temperature in the room, the better sleep you will have.

3. It Can Reduce Puffiness

The cold promotes blood circulation in both the body and the face, which reduces inflammation and swelling!

4. It Can Help With Anti-Aging.
The cold enhances your complexion and rejuvenates your skin. It also slows down the aging process—think of cryotherapy spa treatments or splashing cold water on your face in the morning—and keeps skin tight and vibrant.
