At Home Remedies For A Minor Sunburn

fybc 6:1:17There is nothing worse than a sunburn. Not only are they uncomfortable but they can cause damage to surface of your skin. Here at Forever Young Body Clinic, health is one of our primary cares, which is why we encourage sunless tanning as an alternative to laying out in the sun. That being said, sunburns happen! Here are a few at home remedies you can use to care for your sunburns this summer.

  • Take cold showers or baths frequently
  • With a cool washcloth, apply lotions like aloe vera or chamomile to the burned area. Hydrocortisone Cream may also help relieve both the pain and swelling often associated with a sunburn.
  • If your sunburn has reached its peeling phase, there is little you can do to stop it. Hydrate the affected areas of your skin with lotion or coconut oil multiple times a day to kick start the healing process.

It is important to ease back into the sun after a burn. Give your skin the chance to fully recover and heal before exposing it to direct sunlight. Looking tan is such a confidence booster, but there are ways to get color without compromising your skin. If you have never had a spray tan or are looking to try it, feel free to give us a call. If you are ready to rock a sunkissed glow, book your appointment online today.

Summer Skin Care Essentials

summer essentialsTaking care of your skin is essential, especially here in Colorado since the climate can be harsh. Those of you who stay on top of skin care…keep it up, just be sure you are not taking it too far! Sure, your intentions are good… but be sure you really know what you are doing! Here are three common mistakes to be weary of:

  1. Face Oil. If oils are a part of your skin care regimen remember that it should be applied at the end of your skin care routine. Oil does not allow anything to permeate the skin once it is on! So, in order for your other skincare products to work, save the oil for last.  There is a way for all your products to do their job, you just have to get precise with the application order.
  2. Over-cleansing. Yes, cleaning your face is important, but make sure you are not over cleansing. Over cleaning your face depletes your skin removes or stops your skin from producing essential oils and other nutrients. If you are stripping your skin to the point where your face is drying out, you are increasing your risk for breakouts. One good clean a day is enough.
  3. Assuming your foundation has the right amount of SPF. It is true that most foundations these days have a degree of SPF in their formulas however, it is not enough to protect your skin harmful sun rays! Remember that your foundation most likely contains SPF 15 or 20 in, whereas regular sunblock contains SPF 50! Do not just rely on our foundation, take the all the extra precautions.

The 411 On Sunscreen!

fybc g.jpg

The key to keeping your skin looking youthful and fresh depends on how well you treat it. In order to have skin that still looks radiant in 15 years, you must take the necessary steps to ensure its health.  Exposing your skin to the sun is just a part of life. However, you can control how frequently and directly you allow UV rays. As warmer weather creeps closer, it is time to start thinking about ways to protect your skin. Protect your skin today by using a combination of sunscreen and sunblock as the sun heats up.

Which To Choose: Sunscreen vs Sunblock

Sunscreen, the chemical kind, penetrates the skin and absorbs the UVA rays before they can reach and cause damage to your dermal layer. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the ingredients responsible for deflecting harmful UV rays before they reach the protective outer epidermis layer of your skin.

Sunblock, the physical kind, contains both organic and non-organic ingredients that essentially stay on top of the skin and act as a barrier between the rays and the outer layer of the skin. Buy a sunblock with ingredients like octyl methoxycinnamate, octyl salicylate, and octocrylene.

The major difference between the two is that sunblocks are formulated to shield against UVB rays, while sunscreens protect against UVA. Luckily, these days you can find formulas that contain both.

Take the necessary steps to ensure you feel and look your best, always. If you have questions or concerns about your skin, give us a call today or book an appointment with one of our skincare professionals. Loving the skin you’re in starts with how well you care for it.

Keep Your Spray Tan Flawless!

fybc

Good spray tans are often hard to come by, so you find a salon that leaves you glowing and flawless, do your best to take care of your amazing tan. Here are a few things to keep in mind before getting your next spray tan with us!

  1. Don’t wear tight clothes – Post- spray tan your skin tends to be a bit sticky. Which is why it is a bad idea to wear tight clothing until the formula dries and sets in. Tight clothing increase your chances of smudging you tan. Bring along a loose fitting outfit and avoid smearing your tan.
  2. Sandals or Slip-On Shoes – Putting socks on after a spray tan is a big no no! Although this seems like a small detail, it can totally ruin your spray tan.  We suggest bringing slip-on shoes or sandals to wear post-spray tan!
  3. Know When to Get Your Tan – Spray tans need a good amount of time to set into your skin. If you want a long lasting, fresh tan, you should shower after only after hours. It is in your best interest to book your next spray tan for a day where you have some time to kill.

Now is the perfect time to schedule your spray tan appointment. The spring weather is about to hit hard and we know you want to be ready to show off your skin! Do not let the remnants of pale winter skin get you down. We have the spring time transformation fix here at Forever Young Body Clinic.

3 Tips To Help Prepare Your Skin For Sun Exposure

fybc

Exfoliate and Hydrate

Although neither exfoliating or hydrating your skin can protect you from harmful UV rays, exfoliation and hydration are crucial steps in preparing your skin for sun exposure. Exfoliating is important because it helps remove dead skin cells that build up on the surface of your face after you tan. It is important to remember to not exfoliate before stepping out into the sun, as it removes the protective layer of your skin.

Tanning or any sort of sun exposure has a way of drying out your skin. It is proven that drier skin is more vulnerable to harmful UV rays. By hydrating frequently you are not only moisturizing and replenishing your skin, but you are helping rebuild the protective layer of your skin.

Make Small Diet Changes

It is true that you can improve your skin’s resistance and protect against UV rays by making small changes to your diet! Foods rich in antioxidants, beta-carotene and carotenoids like apricots, peas, carrots, melon, tomatoes, squash, mangos and kale will help your skin when it comes time to reintroduce direct sunlight. Consider consuming more Vitamin E as well. Vitamin E sources like almonds, nuts and vegetable oil offer their own type of protection from the sun.

Slow, Progressive Exposure

The key to maintaining a glow without damaging your skin is to go slow. Progressive sun exposure is the only “safe” way reintroduce your skin to the sun. Keep in mind that you should avoid burning while being in the sun.  Remember that burning increases your risk to skin cancer. Tanning is not good for your skin, so find a great SPF that covers all the UVA and UVB ray spectrum. Keep your sun exposure short and sweet for your safety and your overall look. If you are simply dying to get your summertime glow before spring hits, book an appointment for a spray tan today!
