Fight the urge to scrub away any rough or dry patches of skin. Exfoliating your skin disrupts the protective moisture barrier of your skin’s surface. Rather than exfoliating, hydrate with creamier moisturizers that contain colloidal oatmeal or almond oil. Another way to prevent flaky skin is to limit the water temperature of your showers to lukewarm. Go from drab to fab with one skin care treatment. Rejuvenate and revitalize your dry winter skin with us this weekend. Book your appointment online today.
Although professional facials are our forte here at FYBC, we are never opposed to a little DIY skin care. In fact, we have put a list together of Thanksgiving Day foods staples that are good for your skin. Who would have thought that your favorite Turkey Day meal is also a facial?
Not only are cranberries high in collagen-building vitamin C, they contain ellagic acid, which helps prevents wrinkles by blocking the formation of an enzyme that breaks down elastic tissue. So, coat your face with it in between meals or eat it with bread. Whichever way you choose to take advantage of the power of these tart berries, you are winning.
An apple a day keeps the doctor and your dermatologist away. Apple extract is commonly found in anti-aging lotions. Why? Apple contains malic and mandelic acids which reduce skin discoloration and scarring.
We have talked about the positive effects of pumpkin before but in case you missed it, here is the scoop on the pumpkin. Pumpkin is a rich source of vitamin A, C, and E and contains essential fatty acids that keep your skin protected from free radicals.
Just about every Thanksgiving meal contains cinnamon. It’s a wonderful spice that not only tastes amazing but it can improve your skin. Cinnamon helps fight acne by boosting circulation!
Thanksgiving leftovers are your best friend this holiday season. Be sure to try out a few of these ingredients and share your results with us!
Although Halloween is a fun chance to get creative with your makeup, it often causes major skin irritation. Most costume makeup contains latex, which is designed to be on your face for only short periods of time. Costume makeup kept on any longer than Halloween night will more than likely clog pores, cause allergic reactions and even inflame your skin and eyelids. In order to keep your skin unharmed during the Halloween fun, follow these before and aftercare steps!
Before Touching Your Face
Whatever you use for makeup application should be extremely clean. You should be cleaning brushes, beauty blenders and sponges frequently in general, but especially before applying thick, costume makeup. Next, ensure the area in which you are doing your makeup is also clean. If you haven’t identified it yet, the name of the game is CLEANLINESS! If you don’t have brush cleanser, use warm water. It is important to not cross contaminate the brushes. Rinse each brush one at a time. Once cleaned, reshape the wet bristles if need be then set them out to dry on a towel. For optimal results, clean brushes 24 hours in advance.
Face Prep and Post-Wash
Before any costume makeup is applied, gather your favorite face scrub or cleanser and remove any existing makeup. With your face scrub, exfoliate your face in a circular motion. Exfoliating will remove any dead skin cells, which will allow easier application of makeup or any prosthetics.
Once you have rinsed away any facial scrub, proceed through your normal skin routine. If you usually apply toner or moisturizer after cleansing, do not skip these steps. Since you are shocking your skin with foreign, costume makeup, keep your skin care regimen as normal as possible. You will repeat this very same process when it comes time to remove your costume makeup.
Last But Not Least…
If you find your face breaking out or your skin highly irritated after Halloween has come and gone, visit us here at FYBC. We offer wonderful skincare services that are sure to aid your skin in it’s return to normalcy. Halloween should be a night to remember, but not because the effects remain on the surface of your skin. Give us a call today and secure your appointment before the holiday weekend is in full swing.
Keeping your skin clear can be a challenge. Between weather changes, stress management, and hormones, maintaining clear skin can sometimes feel impossible. What if we told you there was something you could do to better control the clarity of your skin? Well, you are in luck because your diet is a major influence on your skin. Here are 5 acne causing foods to steer clear from this fall.
Dairy products are the biggest culprits when it comes to causing acne. If you are breaking out on your neck, chin or jawline, chances are your intake of dairy is to blame. Why dairy? Dairy products increase your body’s release of insulin and other growth hormones.
Sugar, in general, is not good for clear skin and bananas are especially high in sugar. Too much sugar leads to inflammation of the skin which often leads to acne and redness. People who remove sugar from their diet oftentimes see a difference in their skin in just one week.
The notion that greasy foods cause acne used to be just a myth. However, studies have proven that greasy foods are a direct connection to acne. French fries have a glycemic index of 75 which means it has the ability to drastically change your body’s blood sugar. Elevated blood sugar increases insulin which increases excess oil and skin cell production and leads to clogged pores and breakouts. In addition, the high presence of salt dehydrates your skin.
The cleaner the diet, the clearer your skin will be. To feel great on the inside and outside, avoid these three foods. For more information on ways to keep your skin clean and clear, contact us at Forever Young Body Clinic. Book an appointment with one of our skin care specialists today.
The transition from the summer heat to brisk fall weather can certainly take a toll on your skin. Although stocking up on a quality moisturizer is beneficial, the key to keeping your skin fresh and healthy may be sitting in your backyard. Autumn is the best time to take advantage of pumpkin and its skincare benefits.
Pumpkins offer the benefits like:
- Help promote cell turnover
- Brightens & smooths skin
- Is a natural source of zinc which fights acne
- High in fatty acids and vitamin E
Regardless of the skin type you have, pumpkin-based products can help! Here are a few ways to incorporating pumpkin into your fall skincare routine:
1. Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub
Everyone needs a good exfoliant! They are great for getting rid of dry, dead skin and can help bring back a natural glow. However, it is important to moisturize after any scrub. If you don’t have a moisturizer, simply add a few teaspoons of rich plant oil to your Pumpkin Spice scrub recipe.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup organic canned pumpkin (or homemade pumpkin puree)
- Mix sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon together. Mix with pumpkin. Apply to skin and scrub in a circular motion, and rinse.
2. Pumpkin Puree Moisturizer
This moisturizer should be made in small batches because it will get moldy if left unused. It should be stored in the fridge
In a large bowl mix:
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Store in the fridge and use just like a regular moisturizer!
3. Pumpkin Flesh Facial
It sounds a bit odd, but you can toss pumpkin puree right onto your skin and leave it be for several minutes and be doing some good for your skin.
If you have a little more time, try this facial:
- 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin (puréed)
- 1 tablespoon of soy yogurt or ¼ teaspoon of soy milk
- ½ teaspoon of brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cranberry juice or
- ½ teaspoon oatmeal

Sea Salt: Sea salt is an antiseptic, which is why many people notice that their skin clears up after being at the beach. The good news is that you don’t need to spend hours in the ocean to reap the benefits of saltwater. You can simply apply sea salt to your face to remove age spots, acne, and wrinkles.
Try it at home: All you really need to do is add one tablespoon of sea salt to a 16-ounce spray bottle of warm water. Lightly spritz your face with the combination each night and let the salt do its work.
Aspirin and Honey: This combination is perfect with skin irritation and inflammation strikes. Although aspirin is most commonly used for pain, it also reduces external swelling, which means a red, irritated pimple can go from noticeable to hardly visible in a short amount of time. Honey, on the other hand, is a natural antibiotic that can disinfect your pores.
Try it at home: Crush a single aspirin in a bowl and add a small amount of toner to create a paste. Apply the paste to your blemish for around five minutes. Wash it off and then apply honey and leave it on for ten minutes.
Lemon and Sugar: This little trick is great if you are dealing with stubborn pores clogged with dirt and oil. This pair targets oily skin! Since lemons are a natural antiseptic and sugar is an exfoliant, this combination will open up your pores and penetrate the skin to fight acne.
Try it at home: Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle sugar on one of the exposed halves. Apply that to your face each night to remove dead skin. Say goodbye to acne and welcome fresh, glowing skin.
The fall chill has moved in fast this season, which means the autumn weather is almost here. Soon the temperature will drop and the notorious Colorado dryness will set in. Although we love the autumn season here at FYBC, there are some downsides to fall and winter in Colorado. Dry skin is certainly a common symptom for most during this time of this year, however, there are a few ways to combat dry, irritated skin during colder weather. By simply added these steps to your daily skin routine, you will see a major difference in the way your skin looks and feels:
- Avoid Washing Your Face Too Much – Over-washing your face in one day is going to dry your skin out faster than you think. Wash your face in the evening after a long day and use your moisturizer. In the morning, refresh your skin with a warm cloth but avoid scrubbing your face with any cleanser. By over-washing your face, you prevent the regeneration of skin cells and oils that will come in handy when the temperature drops.
- Pair Your Moisturizer With Oil – Give your moisturizer a little help by adding a few drops of pure argan oil. The oil will replenish your skin and keep your face looking supple and glowing all day long. Argan oil has intense lasting power and will keep your skin hydrated!
- Try A Hydrating Facial Mask – Once or twice a week give your skin a little love with a hydrating face mask. You can make your own using honey and plain yogurt. Leave your mask on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. You will find that your face will look hydrated and happy!
Don’t let the chilly weather give your face a beating. Combat the Colorado dryness and look fabulous all season long with our help. For more information on our skin care, visit our salon today.
