Pros & Cons: Spray Tanning in the Winter

1:23 fybcThe “lit from within” glow is not easily achieved during the winter. For some, it means drinking more water or using brightening serums are the only solution. And for those with little patience, a spray tan usually does the trick. Getting bronzed in the dead of winter is a quick and effective fix for when our skin tends to look duller. However, many of you out there still associate spray tans and self-tanners with the color orange, stickiness and strange smells. In an effort to dispel any myths surrounding sunless tanning, here is a  breakdown of what to expect before, during and after a spray tanning with us.

The Misconceptions

  • For starters, spray tans are nothing like the tangerine-colored ones you remember from the early ’90s. And they’re not just for people with a light complexion. See, the point of a spray tan is to give you a glow, and not completely alter your skin tone.
  • A high-quality spray tan should give you a natural glow, one that doesn’t leave streaks or inconsistencies.
  • The final color you achieve after a spray tan should dry fast and immediately elevate your glow in just one application.
  • The sign of a good spray tan is that no one should know you have one. To ensure you will be pleased with the final results, have a consultation with a professional and then go for it!

The Advantages

  • A seasoned spray tanner will tell you that aside from looking bronzed all year regardless of the season, a spray tan reduces any redness of the skin.
  • Think of a spray tan as an invisible protective shield that creates the appearance of warmer skin, even if you are under the weather. Not to mention that a healthy glow creates the appearance of a more contoured, slim figure.
  • Spray tans are also much safer than the traditional tanning bed. Indoor tanning raises a person’s risk for skin cancer by 75%.

Tricks To Managing A Breakout At Home

FYBC 9:19

There are so many DIY skin remedies out there, but it can be tough to know which ones actually work. Here at FYBC, we have tested a few fabulous skin care tips that not only work but can be done in the comfort of your own home. Save your self a trip to the drug store because the ingredients you need for a quick skin care fix are most likely in your cabinets at home. Take control of your skin care once and for all with the help of these tips.

Sea Salt: Sea salt is an antiseptic, which is why many people notice that their skin clears up after being at the beach. The good news is that you don’t need to spend hours in the ocean to reap the benefits of saltwater. You can simply apply sea salt to your face to remove age spots, acne, and wrinkles.

Try it at home: All you really need to do is add one tablespoon of sea salt to a 16-ounce spray bottle of warm water. Lightly spritz your face with the combination each night and let the salt do its work.

Aspirin and Honey: This combination is perfect with skin irritation and inflammation strikes. Although aspirin is most commonly used for pain, it also reduces external swelling, which means a red, irritated pimple can go from noticeable to hardly visible in a short amount of time. Honey, on the other hand, is a natural antibiotic that can disinfect your pores.

Try it at home: Crush a single aspirin in a bowl and add a small amount of toner to create a paste. Apply the paste to your blemish for around five minutes. Wash it off and then apply honey and leave it on for ten minutes.

Lemon and Sugar:  This little trick is great if you are dealing with stubborn pores clogged with dirt and oil. This pair targets oily skin! Since lemons are a natural antiseptic and sugar is an exfoliant, this combination will open up your pores and penetrate the skin to fight acne.

Try it at home: Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle sugar on one of the exposed halves. Apply that to your face each night to remove dead skin. Say goodbye to acne and welcome fresh, glowing skin.
